Wage Price Index Growth — methodology
Category: Economy & Jobs · Unit: % change (year-ended) · Published quarterly
What this metric measures
Growth in the ABS Wage Price Index: the change in hourly rates of pay for a fixed basket of jobs, year-ended. A clean read on what wages are doing, unaffected by shifts in the mix of jobs.
Why it matters: Nominal wage growth is the base of real wages. Compared with inflation, it shows whether pay is keeping up with the cost of living.
