What this metric measures

Estimated total salary cost of the Australian Public Service, derived from APSC headcount and median remuneration by agency and classification level.

Why it matters: The public service is one of the largest single expenditure items. Breaking it down by agency and classification level shows where the salary bill sits and whether workforce size is growing or shrinking.
