Budget Variance (Actual vs Estimate) — methodology
Category: Government Spending · Unit: AUD millions · Published monthly
What this metric measures
Difference between actual federal expenditure and the budgeted estimate for the same period. Positive = overspend.
Why it matters: Shows whether the government is spending what it said it would. Large positive variances warrant scrutiny; negative variances may indicate underfunding.
