Dwellings Under Construction: methodology
Category: Housing · Unit: dwellings · Published quarterly
What this metric measures
Number of dwellings being built at the end of each quarter, nationally and by state.
Why it matters: The stock of homes under construction is the housing pipeline: how much supply is on its way. A build-up can mean strong activity or building delays, so it is read alongside commencements and completions.
