Company Profits — methodology
Category: Business · Unit: $ million · Published quarterly
What this metric measures
Gross operating profits of private corporations, current prices, seasonally adjusted — the profit earned from ordinary business operations each quarter.
Why it matters: Profits fund investment, hiring and dividend income, and they are the corporate tax base. A sustained fall points to a weaker economy ahead.
