Children in Out-of-Home Care — methodology
Category: Equality & Inclusion · Unit: per 1,000 Indigenous children · Published annual
What this metric measures
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children aged 0-17 in out-of-home care at 30 June, per 1,000 Indigenous children, from the Closing the Gap data report.
Why it matters: Out-of-home care is one of the starkest gaps between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. The rate is a Closing the Gap target area and a direct measure of child safety and family support.
