Private New Capital Expenditure — methodology
Category: Business · Unit: $ million · Published quarterly
What this metric measures
New spending by private businesses on buildings, structures, equipment, plant and machinery, current prices, seasonally adjusted.
Why it matters: Business investment adds productive capacity and is a leading indicator of future employment and output. Weak capex now means a smaller economy later.
